so tonight i officially found out how talented i am. i haven't been feeling so well the past few days. last night i managed to cook dinner with 1 frying pan, 1 hot plate, and a microwave. i made mashed potatoes, broccoli, and chicken nuggets. now mind you, i wouldn't serve this to anyone, but i was impressed that it tasted good and didn't make me feel sick. it was the closest thing to fried chicken and 2 vegetables (aka a good north carolina meal) that i could come by. i didn't want chinese, didn't want mcdonald's, and didn't want to try to take myself somewhere western that could or could not have a decent meal. so high five for lee.
well the real talent came out this evening after i'd gone to the doctor and the western grocery store to pick up something for dinner. i bought canned goods...no biggy right? got home only to realize i didn't have a can opener. fine, i'll take myself back to my local grocer and get one. so i did. only when i got home, i realized i bought a stupid garlic press and NOT a can opener. grr...so mad and hungry. i looked at the can and thought you are going to be opened...just how? well, i took my handy dandy wine tool--2 different ones, mind you--the more substantial one to use as a hammer and poke a hole; then the rickety one to turn under and pull apart to open the can. very nifty if i do say so myself.
so now i've fixed two real "meals" in my studio apartment with only a hot plate and microwave. first one: fried chicken (sort of), mashed potatoes, and broccoli. second one: taco salad of sorts with vegetarian chili, guacamole, and chips. pretty awesome right? well maybe not, but after having only eaten at home grilled cheese, cheese and crackers, and peanut butter crackers/sandwiches for a month, i was thrilled beyond belief.
